Who is Nat?
My name is Natalie Husk, although most people call me Nat (except my parents!). I was born and raised in Cornwall and am proud of it! I have always been involved in the church, whether going to my local village chapel in Common Moor, joining with bus loads from Cornwall at MAYC events, helping at the District Children’s Holiday or even attending Synod a few times! I am very thankful to the Cornwall District, the Liskeard & Looe Circuit and of course Common Moor chapel for being such valuable parts in my journey of faith.
Today I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, where I work as a youth worker for the Methodist Church. I run after school clubs, youth clubs, a youth fellowship, do outreach work and organise trips away. Not long ago I was asked by a youth group, to give them a weekly topic for reflection, an email containing something to focus them on God for the week. So every week I sit at my computer and write down my thoughts! It started quite small, with just the young people receiving them, and now lots of people of all ages find my thoughts in their email inbox!
It is a huge privilege for me to find that people enjoy and are challenged by what I have written, especially that I can now share what God has done for me with those who walked with me at the beginning of my journey. Ultimately these reflections are aimed at the young people I now work with, but if God can speak to others through them, how great is that!! |

Celebrities Hey Folks! Now I don’t know whether you are a celebrity addict, permanently stapled to a copy of ‘Heat’ desperate to hear what Jordon had for breakfast or what pyjamas David Beckham wears (thick tartan ones I suspect!). Or maybe you detest the whole idea of fame and people’s struggle with getting their pics in the paper and then screaming for privacy. Either way it is a huge part of our culture and difficult to ignore. I myself, pretend to be above it all and refuse to buy trashy magazines, but leave one on my coffee table and I’m in there quick as a flash! I hate the obsession with these so called celebrities, but find myself secretly intrigued by their lives and what all the fuss is about. But then most days it’s not really an issue, as not many celebs are found wandering around Wakefield. This Easter Monday, along with some of you guys, I went for the day to Spring Harvest in Skegness, where celebs in their multitudes were just walking about and chatting and doing ordinary things. These were not your usual famous bods clamouring for attention by revealing body parts for the cameras, but the ‘Christian Celebrity’. These people are famous for being Christian speakers, musicians or generally just great Godly types. Everyone was flocking to them, wanting autographs and trying to catch an air or spirituality from them, as if being near them would bring them closer to God. Then a real Celebrity appeared. Daniel Bedingfield walked past me, and I suddenly found myself turning to my mate and whispering, “Wasn’t that Daniel Bedingfield?” It was indeed Mr. Bedingfield (I, it appears, am a great celeb spotter!). He later appeared at Worship and surprised me greatly with his humility. As he led worship he declared that he would continue to lead us but by stepping off the stage, so that we would not forget who it was we had come to praise and adore (handy hint, it wasn’t him!). We had all (me included) had become perhaps a little too obsessed with someone famous (and gorgeous) leading our singing, that we had forgotten how much more famous and worthy of our worship is God… He created the world, He parted the seas and moved the mountains, He heals and saves, He loves and cares so much that He died and rose again for us, which is a whole lot more than having 3 number one’s (no offence Daniel!). So next time you pass a newsagents and consider buying a gossip filled magazine or find yourself drawn to the next celebrity-big-brother’s-fame-come dancing programme, remember the really famous One and all that He has given you. We need good role models (enter Christian heroes) but we should learn to look past them to Jesus and all that He has done for us. All the best for a fun filled day before school and college starts again next week, Lots of love Nat xxx |
