Who is Nat?
My name is Natalie Husk, although most people call me Nat (except my parents!). I was born and raised in Cornwall and am proud of it! I have always been involved in the church, whether going to my local village chapel in Common Moor, joining with bus loads from Cornwall at MAYC events, helping at the District Children’s Holiday or even attending Synod a few times! I am very thankful to the Cornwall District, the Liskeard & Looe Circuit and of course Common Moor chapel for being such valuable parts in my journey of faith.
Today I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, where I work as a youth worker for the Methodist Church. I run after school clubs, youth clubs, a youth fellowship, do outreach work and organise trips away. Not long ago I was asked by a youth group, to give them a weekly topic for reflection, an email containing something to focus them on God for the week. So every week I sit at my computer and write down my thoughts! It started quite small, with just the young people receiving them, and now lots of people of all ages find my thoughts in their email inbox!
It is a huge privilege for me to find that people enjoy and are challenged by what I have written, especially that I can now share what God has done for me with those who walked with me at the beginning of my journey. Ultimately these reflections are aimed at the young people I now work with, but if God can speak to others through them, how great is that!! |

Arms Hey! I recently went to see X-Men 3 (if you’re looking for a film set in reality, perhaps best to avoid this one!) in which Vinnie Jones plays a character called ‘Juggernaut’. One of the things about him is his arms. They are huge. Really huge! And muscley! Gigantic! Mega! I can’t quite express their enormity! As the film ended my friends and I commented on these amazing limbs. It seemed the group was split – with some thinking Mr. Jones had built them up through hard work and exercise, and others thinking they were fake muscles. Short of asking Vinnie (obviously in a polite and gentle manner; with or without fake muscles he’s still very scary!) I don’t think we’ll ever find out, but it has got me looking at everyone’s arms. Some people have long arms, some short. Some people have hairy arms, some bald. Some people have freckly arms, some tanned. Some people have thin arms, some chunky. Some people have weak arms, some strong. (for your info mine are long and freckly!) as I wander around looking at people’s arms I wonder what God’s arms are like?! We use expressions and images of God wrapping His loving arms around us, so I assume His arms are gentle and tender, but also strong and protecting. Thoughts of God wiping away our tears and comforting us like a parent with a small child spring to mind. But when I was young my dad also used his arms to swing me round, lift me onto his shoulders and to tickle me. We had fun together! I reckon God wants to share that with us too. God’s arms, whether hairy or not, are not limited to one thing; not only to comfort or just to protect, but to connect to us in so many ways, in all aspects of our lives. So lets open our minds and let the arms of God do their thing, and who knows,, we may experience the rest of God too! Have a good week and go see X-men 3 and join the arm debate! Love Nat xxx |
