The Cornwall Methodist District covers almost all of the County of Cornwall and includes the Isles of Scilly. There are two Methodist churches in the island Circuit with a further 255 churches divided between the 19 mainland Circuits.

The District is predominantly rural in nature with many small congregations. The road system of the County has been much improved and allows good access to the various parts of the District.

The pattern of employment in Cornwall has changed over the years with the demise of Cornish mining and with the mechanisation of the china clay industry. Tourism is now a major factor in the life of the County with the awarding of European Objective One status providing a significant boost to the Cornish economy.

Methodism plays a significant role in the self-understanding of the County and there are many opportunities to develop links into the wider community.

The District is also resourced by the District Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Ann Guy, who works from the District Office in Diocesan House. The office is staffed on Monday and Wednesday mornings but there is an answer-phone service at other times.

BACKGROUND

I have been an engineer for over 40 years, of which the last 27 years have been in the Training and Development function. For the last ten I have worked as an independent training consultant working in Manufacturing, Service Sector, Police Forces, NHS, Power Supply, a number of small companies and even Leicester Tigers Rugby Club, but unfortunately I can take no credit for their standard of play!

I am a Local Preacher and an Anglican Reader and whilst living in Shropshire also preaching in the Baptist and United Reform Churches.

I hope, whilst the TDO for Cornwall that I can use the gifts given to me in supporting the District and with the help of my other colleagues assist in the challenging times ahead.
