About the Circuit

The Circuit covers a large area of mid-Cornwall including mining, agricultural and tourist areas stretching from Fraddon to Lostwithiel, and from Fowey to Boswinger.

It comprises 29 Churches (including a Methodist/United Reformed Church L.E.P. at Mevagissey), with 6 presbyters (4 full-time and 2 part-time), several lay-workers including a half-time children's work coordinator, a half-time youth work coordinator and a part-time circuit secretary (staffing the Circuit Office at St John's Methodist Church).

A Children's Choir and 'Puppets of Praise' Group and the Circuit YouthGroup, Sonset are active as are several more local groups.

Mission Statement

The aim of the mission policy of the St Austell Methodist Circuit is to promote faith in God through Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit in all its aspects as a credible, viable, dynamic and proper response to God’s grace. With this aim, our objectives are:

  • To make mission an integral and deliberate part of every church activity.
  • To work as closely as possible with each other and with our ecumenical partners in all aspects of the work of mission.
  • To encourage the development of new vision and new practices for local churches.
  • To review our progress in attaining these objectives on a regular basis.

In a circuit as large and diverse as this, no single emphasis or Programme will be best suited to all situations. Within the context of our aim and objectives, the circuit identifies three areas of mission in which it encourages members and churches to concentrate their efforts. These are Evangelism, Outreach and Work with Children and Young People.
