About the Circuit

The Callington & Gunnislake Circuit is a compact circuit, consisting now of four congregations - known as Callington, St Dominic, Stoke Climsland, and Tamar Valley Methodist Churches.  The first three of these are situated in the communities from which they are named; the fourth (Tamar Valley) is located in Albaston and the opening of its new building in 2001 was the culmination of more than ten years of planning and work by the Tamar Valley congregation, which was formed by the amalgamation of four village congregations on the eastern side of the circuit.  The boundary of the circuit on the east is formed by the River Tamar, hence the choice of name for that church.

The premises at Callington, St Dominic and Stoke Climsland have all been modernised in various ways over recent years, to make them as suitable as possible for the work and worship of the church in the 21st century.

Mission Statement

The Callington & Gunnislake Circuit, as part of the Methodist Church, sees the basic reasons for its continued existence (in the terms set out in the Our Calling process) as: to increase awareness of God's presence and to celebrate God's love; to help people to learn and grow as Christians, through mutual support and care; to be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice; and to make more followers of Jesus Christ.

Though a small circuit, it believes it is a viable unit with which people in the circuit can identify.  Through its structures, the circuit seeks to encourage the worship and witness of the local churches, and to provide opportunities for worshipping and working together as a whole, where this is more appropriate.

We see the commitment of the circuit to the financing of a Disciple course, and the commitment of the twenty people doing the course, as indicative of a circuit which is in good heart.
